Skainos Festival

This past Saturday some of the YAV's and I went to East Belfast Mission where Kathryn works because they were celebrating the opening of their new buildings and programs.

Excerpt from their website: "We’re delighted that the very first community festival, called SkainosFest, was held 19-20 October. Upwards of 1,000 people, mostly from the local area and from all traditions, visited Skainos and took tours of the facility, listened to live music in the cafe, participated in workshops, visited the community exhibition, jumped on the bouncy castles or simple sat in the sun in the Square.

The facility performed exactly as we had hoped and really came alive as local people laid claim to the space. A big thank you to the EBM pastoral and community staff, the facilities team, the congregation and the volunteers who made it all happen."

It was a really fun day and a great way to see where Kathryn is working and meet her co-workers. We got a tour of the building, saw some Irish dancing, Irish story-telling, henna, and ate some food. The building is really incredible and full of metaphors in the architecture such as some things are meant to represent the cranes in the harbor, and there are aspects of a tent throughout the buildings to represent Scripture.

Here is a video of the festival (if you look closely you can see Kathryn talking to Grace and I.)

Here are the photos I took during the day. Most are taken from the view of the apartments.
